BRITISH & AMERICAN DDAY EXPERIENCE
Starting at a convenient hour, this tour is designed to allow you to have breakfast in your hotel before meeting your guide at the tour departure point in the centre of Bayeux. Once onboard, you will be transported in a modern air conditioned van/ bus to visit the key sites in the Gold & Omaha sectors. You will have lasting memories of your visit including, walking the grounds of the beautiful Normandy American Cemetery.

DEPARTURE
We like to run on schedule and if you are not at the departure point by the advertised boarding time, we will depart. There will be others on board that have arrived as requested and we do not want to impact their experience. If you do arrive late, you will need to take a cab at your own expense to catch up with the tour. We strongly advise you to arrive early for the tour as no refunds will be considered if you miss the service.
NORMANDY BRITISH MEMORIAL
The memorial is located near Ver-sur-Mer which overlooks Gold beach, and contains the names of all 22,442 soldiers that died on D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. You will see a nine-foot-tall sculptures of three charging infantrymen, which weigh over a ton each, created by sculptor David Williams-Ellis.
GOLD BEACH
Gold beach was assaulted by British forces on D-Day. Their objectives were to move west and capture Arromanches and link up with American forces landing at Omaha. Move eastwards to link up with forces landing at Juno Beach and to move inland and capture the medieval town of Bayeux.
MULBERRY HARBOUR B
Arromanches was chosen as the location for Mulberry B Artifical Harbour; better known as port Winston after Churchill. We will show the impressive remnants of this amazing construction project and explain how significant this was in defeating the Germans in Normandy.
GERMAN GUN BATTERY
This impressive gun battery position is the only position along the Atlantik Wall in this area of France that still has the guns in situ. We will explore the site together and you will learn about how it was built, how it operated and ultimately, how it was silenced.
PORT-EN-BESSIN
In the spring of 1944, the town of Port-en-Bessin was occupied by the 1st Company of the Grenadier-Regiment 726 (716. Infanterie-Division). Its fishing port is located below a large cliff that is set up for defense by the Germans. On June 6th, at 9:30 am, the landing did not proceed as planned for the British commandos who suffered very heavy losses. Immediately after the fighting, the Allies began work to rehabilitate the port. The aim is to carry out landings of supplies, but also to set up a pipeline system: PLUTO (Pipe-Line Underwater Transport of Oil).
POINTE DU HOC
During World War Two, the Nazis were in the process of building the Atlantik Wall; a series of fortifications from Norway to the border of France and Spain. Stretching for over 2000 miles, this formidable construction of fortifications was designed to try and prevent an Allied landing in the west. One such site was located at the Pointe Du Hoc in Normandy. Consisting of 6 long range gun positions and many other concrete bunkers, it posed a real threat to Allied shipping on D-Day. As this battery was right between the two American landing beaches, Allied planners had no choice but to knock out this position. Here you will hear the incredible stories of bravery shown by US Army Rangers who had to scale nearly 100 feet of cliffs to destroy the guns.
OMAHA BEACH – DOG GREEN
You will hear the story of "the Bedford Boys", a group of 30 young men from Bedford Virginia, a town of 3,200. All of whom had joined the National Guard before the outbreak of WW2 and had then been incorporated into Company A, 116th Infantry, 29th Division. Prior to D-Day, they were chosen to be the first wave to land on Omaha Beach, Dog Green Sector, which was the best defended and toughest of the invasion points on that historic day.
AMERICAN CEMETERY
The Normandy American Cemetery covers 172 acres and is the final resting place for many thousands of service men and women. You will have sufficient time to explore the visitor center before taking the time to reflect in the cemetery . Four women and three Medal of Honor recipients, including Theodore Roosevelt Jr, are some of the most notable people buried here.

We kindly ask that you be at the shuttle departure point at Place De Quebec in Bayeux at least 10 minutes before the shuttle is due to depart. If you are coming by car, free parking near the train station (10 mins walking).

As we are very close to Bayeux or Port-en-Bessin, we will choose one of those two cities to allow you to have lunch. Lunch is not included in the price of this tour so once we arrive, you will be given sufficient time to grab a quick lunch in one of those beautiful medieval town before we head back off for the afternoon part of the tour.

Depending on the tide, you will have the opportunity to walk on the sand and see the beach from the soldiers perspective. This stop will be towards the western end of Omaha beach. If you take our advice, you can use some of your time in Normandy to visit Omaha Beach from the Cemetery, which is towards the eastern end of the beach. You will be able to fully comprehend the American landings in this part of Normandy. You can have two perspectives of the 4.2 miles of coastline both from a German high ground point of view and, an American perspective from the sand.
